CleanSky project enables non-destructive testing of complex carbon fiber parts for aerospace applications

Safety has top priority in aerospace. In order to guarantee that important structural carbon fiber parts are defect-free, appropriate quality control is required. A common technology used to inspect the integrity of parts is ultrasonic testing. However, the inspection process is difficult to automate, given the complex part structures that are present in many situations. Strong curvatures and high wall thicknesses put challenging requirements on the inspection procedure. Project SonicScan is dedicated to lift automated ultrasonic inspection to the next level. In the context of project SonicScan, Acoustic Control Systems – ACS Group in collaboration with Profactor is developing an automated robotic work-cell for ultrasonic inspection.

Important for the ultrasonic testing of parts is that all regions of a part are actually covered. Therefore, the ultrasonic transducer must travel across the part’s surface at a defined distance. In order to execute this motion with an industrial robot, multiple things need to be taken into account: propagation of the ultrasonic signal, geometry of the part, shadowing, accessibility, and spacing between part and test head. To solve such a complex path-planning problem, project partners develop special software.

Ultrasonic testing enables a view into carbon parts.

This project has received funding from the Clean Sky 2 Joint Undertaking (JU) under grant agreement No 831830. The JU receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the Clean Sky 2 JU members other than the Union.

The new App software A1410 PULSAR for ANDROID is available for download at GooglePlay

The new application software for visualization and processing data from the UPVT instrument A1410 PULSAR for viewing the UPVT measurement results in waveform and digital form can be now downloaded free of charge in GooglePlay Store. Among others, the evaluation of concrete compressive strength by SonReb method according to all the valid international standards is implemented.

New European Research project of ACS

On April 1st 2019 Acoustic Control Systems in consortium with PROFACTOR GmbH, Austria have started a research and development project SONICSCAN (Clean Sky 2 Joint Undertaking (JU) under grant agreement No 831830 in scope of the European Union’s Horizon 2020 program).

The project aims at developing innovative NDT methods based on ultrasonic tomography that are suitable for production testing primary structural parts. To address this problem the project builds upon the modern Phased Array technology that allows the tomographic inspection of parts and combine it with a robotic handling system to move the sensor across the part.

B-SCAN mode in the EMA thickness gauge A1270

Dear Sirs!

Our company has released a new version of the firmware of the electro-magnetic acoustic thickness gauge A1270.

Now, in addition to the MEMORY and A-SCAN modes, B-SCAN mode is implemented in the device.

The B-SCAN mode is used to search for corrosion damage during scanning of the inspection object. Graphical B-scan is formed from the results of measurements obtained during scanning.

A1270 is EMA thickness gauge with an innovative electro – magnetic biasing technology implemented in EMA transducers.
Please note that the delivery period of the EMA thickness gauge A1270 has been reduced to 10 days!

For purchase, please, contact us by phone: +49 (0) 681-96592270 or e-mail: info@acs-international.com
